Gary Wayne Barker

 

Gary Barker CLOVER - On November 8, 2014, Gary Wayne Barker, of Clover, received his angel wings. He was born June 16, 1949, in Bryson City, N.C. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war with many honors and accommodations. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9281, Bryson City. He retired from Con-Met/Amsted industries of Bryson City. He was a long-time resident of Rock Hill, where he worked for Rock Hill Telephone Company for many years. He lived in Clover with his family/caregivers. Gary was a 1967 graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was preceded in death by his father, James Wayne "Shorty" Barker, and mother, Maybelle Seay Barker; his brother, George Barker of Bryson City; his uncle, Jesse Seay, of Rock Hill; and lifelong friends, Jimmy and Connie Johnson and Baby Casey. He is survived by his best friends/caregivers: Jeff and Tonya Young, of Clover, and their extended families; his children (biological and non-biological), Melissa Barker Lyvers and her husband, Scott Lyvers, of Rock Hill, Harrison Barker, Alex Johnson, Logan Young, and Tyler Young, of Clover. He is "Paw Paw" Gary to Lucas Lyvers and Elise Lyvers, of Rock Hill. He will be greatly missed by his brother, David "Butch" Barker, of Bryson City, and Barbara Barker, his lifelong friend and sister-in-law of Bryson City; his extended Barker family of the Alarka Community; and his cousin, Janice Kangas, and her children, Kimberly, Kevin and Karen. Gary leaves many friends that he quickly made family - Trent and Cricket Goforth with their children, Reagan and TJ; his son?s girlfriends, Meagan and Caitlin; his ex-spouse, Lucinda Barker; the entire family at Life Enrichment Center in Kings Mtn., N.C., his "personal nurses" William Cramer and Tara Atwell; and many, many more. There will be a family and friends gathering on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, from 6-7:30 pm (all are welcome) at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill SC 29732.
