Marion Brooks

We are heartbroken to announce that Marion Odell Brooks, Jr. (Manny) 74 of Rock Hill, South Carolina, passed away after a sudden illness on Christmas morning Dec 25, 2023, his favorite holiday.

Manny was born in Rock Hill on May 5th, 1949, to Marion O. Brooks, Sr., and Will Mae Hunt Brooks. Manny had a very happy childhood which involved yearly two-week trips to the beach and other fun activities. He is a 1967 graduate of Rock Hill High School.

Manny was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Lori Brooks Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his son, Shane (Erin) Brooks and his daughter, Lauren (Stephen) Heath, granddaughters Mary-Kate, Maddyn, and Ellis Brooks, his grandsons, Mills and Wilder Heath, his stepdaughters Dawn (Keith) Dugan, Lisa (David) Smith, Amy (Lee) Rafford and his step grandchildren, Elliott and Kate Dugan and Kelly and Carson Smith, several nieces and nephews. Manny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all.

There is no doubt that Manny’s professional calling in life was to become a jeweler. He did just that joining his dad at the family business, Brooks Jewelers in downtown Rock Hill, which Manny later owned. Manny then joined Al Russo’s Brown Lee Jewelers and then Queen City Jewelers in downtown Charlottle, where he finished out his career.

Manny loved his Dallas Cowboys, taking care of his pool, Steely Dan, and beach music. Back in the day, he was a mean Carolina shagger. Manny was late in coming to social media but once he did, he connected with many friends from the past. He loved being updated on everyone’s lives. Manny’s love for his family, passion for his hobbies, and adoration for his cat Penelope (and her for him) was very apparent for all that knew him.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at the Armstrong-Mauldin House, 607 Aiken Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730 on Friday, January 19th from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
