YORK - Mr. Lawrence Wallace Ghent, 60, of 217 Waterside Trail passed away Aug. 4, 2010, at his residence.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Ghent was born on Oct. 26, 1949, to the late Gerald and Mary Joe Ghent. He was currently teaching engineering and architecture courses at York Technical College. Mr. Ghent graduated from Clemson University in 1976 with a BA in Architecture. After his studies at Clemson University he went on to attend the University of California at Berkeley where he pursued a masters degree in his field. He had a passion for building; beginning with tree houses with his brothers in his youth, to residences in California, hotels and movie theaters nationwide, and finally his dream home on Lake Wylie.

Mr. Ghent is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Martha Ghent; two sons, Bryan Ghent of York and Derek Ghent of Charlotte; two brothers, Bruce Ghent and Gerald Ghent Jr., both of Rock Hill; and one sister, Susan Oliver of Greer.
