Gainesville, Virginia - Gainesville, VA - Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Gloria Mungo Dechman, 73, pass away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her home.
Mrs. Dechman was born in York County, SC and was the daughter of the late Flora Hargrove and her stepfather, Albert Winfred Hargrove, Sr. Gloria attended elementary and high school in Rock Hill and attended college at Clemson University where she met and married Gordon Dechman. At Clemson, she studied mathematics and worked as an operator at Clemson. After her marriage, she and Gordon spent 2 years in Clemson and then moved to Pullman, WA, Ely, NV, back to Denver, Rigby, ID, Mt. Laurel, NJ, and Hardwood and Annapolis, MD before settling in Gainesville, VA. They also traveled extensively visiting interesting locales all across the country, from Key West to Maine and all over the West, from the desert southwest to Alaska.
She worked as a computer operator, bank teller, sales clerk, and briefly in Nevada as a blackjack dealer, and developed skills as a gourmet cook and crafter in stained glass, sewing, crocheting, and weaving. After settling in Gainesville, she became a prolific maker of artisan jewelry.
A graveside service for Gloria will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 7, 2022 at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 S. Cherry Road, with Reverend Terry Wingate officiating.
Mrs. Dechman is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gordon Dechman; her son, Nicholas Michael Dechman of Columbus, Ohio; her two grandsons; her brothers, F. Milton Mungo of Roan Mountain, TN, Albert W. Hargrove, Jr. and F. William Hargrove, Sr., both of Rock Hill, SC; and her sisters, Alice H. Adkins and Trish H. Michaw, both of Rock Hill, SC.
