Rock Hill - Mr. James David Porter, 49, of 312 Long St. died Friday September 25, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte of a brain contusion. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park. A native of York County, Mr. Porter received a football scholarship to Clemson University but was injured. He then enrolled at the University of South Carolina and received his degree in electrical engineering and was a telecommunications engineer for BellSouth. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran petty officer first class. Surviving are his companion, Libby Morgan of Gastonia, NC; his mother Vera Spivy Porter of Rock Hill; two daughters Christi Ann Porter Cox and Susan Rambo Porter Champion both of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, Leslie Morgan of Gastonia and three grandchildren - Courtnie Cox, Shelby Champion and Cody Champion. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. at Bass Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of York County.

David was my High School sweetheart I married and he is the Father of my two Girls Christi & Susan. He did get to meet his first two grandchildren Shelby & Courtnie but there are 3 more with one carrying his name as his first name "Porter". It is a shame he died so young. He always said he would die before 50 and believe it or not he did. Rest in Peace
