Craig was wonderful to be around.  His timing and his ability to see things differently allowed him to capture a moment.  Many can create laughter if they are willing to make a fool of themselves but Craig could make us laugh without appearing foolish.  He seemed to always pull it off.  I once told Craig that he should try out for Dancing with the Stars.  Since his death there have been some wonderful things said and written about Craig.  The one thing that I have not heard mentioned is the fact that he served in the military as a Lieutenant.

There has never been anyone like Craig Thomas.  At least I have never met anyone quite like Craig.  How he loved life!  He possessed the God given ability to treat people in such a way that made everybody like him.  He made everyone feel as if they were his very best friend.  Once, several years ago, during a vollyball tournament our team was waiting for the next match.  The guys started talking about the fist fights they had gotten into when they were younger.  When it got around to Craig's turn, he said, "i've never been in a fight...ever."  We were all amazed!  Years later, his brother Goody told me that he and Craig only had one fight.  That was it.

I know for a fact that Craig took his Christian faith very seriously.  He helped teach a Men's Bible class at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church.  It was important to him.  When he first got the news about the cancer, his attitude was, "It's okay, God has something more for me to do."  He was exactly right.  God enabled Craig to positively impact the lives of everyone he came in contact.  Craig is not gone; he has just relocated.  I know I will see his smiling face again.  To God be the glory!!

I got reacquainted with Craig over the last four years when he visted his Mom at Westminister Towers. Craig was the same smiling, upbeat guy I had always known from back in High School. It was like the years melted away, time had stood still and that we had seen each other just the week before. It seemed that every time I was in RH to visit my Mom who was also at Westminister Tower, I'd see Craig and we'd catch up. This past February, as I was sitting in the lobby at Westminister checking emails on my computer, Craig walked up and we started our normal conversation. He was his normal cheerful self. Craig was wearing a ball cap and as we were standing there talking about the well being of our other classmates, he casually mentioned he's been having some health problems. I asked him what was his specific problem, so I could pray for him. He then shared that he had cancer and some of the trials he had been through over the past few years, He shared that he was not sure what God had in store for him while he was on this planet but that he was certain that God was with him every step of the way and that his salvation was assured through Christ.

As we parted, I got the chance to tell him that I loved him and would be praying for him and his family... as I have and continue to do. I am thankful for that.

Craig's home now with God. For me, he leaves a gracious, never give up, encouraging, faith filled legacy to remember and live by. That's the Craig Thomas I know.
